Saga. Her place is Sokkvabekr. Saga is one of the twelve major Goddesses, second only to Frigg according to Snorri in the Prose Edda. She sits by the stream of memory and drinks from golden chalices at Her grand estate called Sökkvabekkr. it means Sunken Bench or bank. Or Treasure Bank. Odin goes to visit her and listen to her stories and drink with her. She is the only one besides Thor that can match the All Father drink for drink. Her name possibly meant Seeing one. In modern Swedish it means Story or History. She is called upon when lore is to be recited and recorded. Some see Saga as the younger sister of Iduna, born to Hildegun the Valkyrie and Ivaldi the King of the Duergar.

Others see her as another personification of Frigga. Me I see her as her own person. No where is it written that Odin does anything else but listen to her and drink with her.

I see her hall Sokkvabek with it's greenery and relaxing spaces drawing Odin to rest before heading to his high seat, Hliðskjálf and tending to Asgard and Midgard. The cool stream flowing from her hall may be the stream of unconsciousness.
The place where stories are formed. Where inspiration and great epics are formed. Where our sagas are formed. And kept safe

Saga is the keeper of our stories so we do not forget. Pour a glass of ale and drink with her. Just don't try to match her! Only Thor can do that!

From the Grímnismál
Sökkvabekkr heitir inn fjórði,
en þar svalar knegu unnir yfir glymja;
þar þau Óðinn ok Sága drekka um alla daga
glöð ór gullnum kerum.

Sökkvabekk is the fourth, where cool waves flow,
And amid their murmur it stands;
There daily do Othin and Saga drink
In gladness from cups of gold.

Hail to you Saga!
