Midsummer 2025

Our Kindred met officially for the first time. Some of us old friends, others first time meeting. The energy of the first time was both electric and relaxing. We chose Midsummer as a perfect meeting time with Sunna's power at the highest. To share with us her strength during the building process. And while her power begins to wain, ours will continue to grow as the year marches on. On this post we'll share the actual Blot text Chuck wrote and a few of the pictures of our little group.

We do plan to grow. But at the same time, we have no desire to be the largest nor most popular kindred. But we do intend on being the BEST!

I wrote this blot originally in 1996. I found it in some old papers from years ago. I took it's outline and brought it into the 21st century. Y'all old heathens know we did things different back then.

We hail you Heimdall, heaven-bright warder – See us in safety, as sacrifice we hold,

Asa Thor, Goat-driver, god of the Garths, hallow this place with Mjolnir and hold it in might all-holy.

All father Odin. Hold us in your gaze and share your wisdom!

Mother Frigg. Hold well your kin and bring us your peace and foresight

Lady Freya. Your beauty surrounds us, From your hall at Fólkvangr. And your einherjar ward us well.

Nerthus, wondrous torque-wearer—strong in the summer’s might, we welcome you!

We welcome all our gods and goddesses here unnamed, and hail them with our works. So too we welcome weal-workers all, Alfar, Disir, Landvættir ancestors – all have here their place. We load our blot-horns and hallow them to the powers – Gods and Goddesses all –great ones we have welcomed, receive these gifts and know our gratitude.

Here we stand and hail the strength of Sunna and the gifts of all gods at midsummer. Sunna in her stead during the day lingers long, and night shows herself in her shortest reign. Nerthus waxes in her wondrous might, and the height of the happy season has come.

We celebrate, we sacrifice, knowing gift asks for gift, knowing gods and goddesses have given much. We also gather to welcome a new hall to stand before the gods. Hail! We welcome all great gods and goddesses, weal-workers and wights all-holy.

But first what about our name? The Web of Wyrd. A lot of folks think that is just plain weird. And if you use it in the context of the English word it is. But from the ancient Norse standpoint it fits beautifully. When you look at the definition, it's kind of vague "fate or personal destiny" Which sort of fits us. We were drawn by fate. Perhaps the Norns had a hand in it. But when you flesh out the definition then our name makes perfect sense. Unlike other religions of the time, namely the Greeks They, (the) Greeks considered fate inescapable. What you were dealt as a hand you played it. We on the other hand left in a lot of personal responsibility. Wyrd doesn't necessarily imply an inescapable or predetermined outcome for everyone. Like the Havamal and other writings, it's a guide. This also means that your individual and group courage, actions or inactions will influence your wyrd. So when we put it all together the web of bonding, fellowship and frændi, This Forges our web of our chosen and influenced fate into to a hall and kindred of the south. In this picture is some of our founding members, plus our dear friend Doug the leader of Skjaldborg: the Shieldwall of Summerville

Midsummer, the halfway point of the year. Sunna, the light bringer, Her shining light brings life to us on Midgard. It warms Jord and helps her shake off Skadi’s blanket The might of Sunna shines at her strongest. Sunna the daughter of Mundilfari and Glaur, Sister to Mani. Races across our sky, marking our time. Casting her powerful light into all places. Árvakr and Alsviðr, their names mean Early Awake, and All Swift, pull hard on her chariot. The wolf Skoll is now far behind.

To some it may be strange starting a new hall at the height of Sunna. Her power is at its peak and starts to wain on the morrow. But to me it is the perfect time. Fully charged with the power of Sunna, we have the strength at hand to thrive in the growing of a new hall!

We weave the Sun-wheel in its shining might A symbol of Sunna has reached highest stead, to the fire we cast the wheel of old, may it roll true in it’s final journey, and add some strength to Sunna’s race.

We hail how Sunnas might. Share the strength she gives us on her long journey to the night. We bid fare well to the high ones who shared space with us. Words are spoken, deeds are done, gifts for gift was given— With these words the rite is closed, and rightly it was closed.

With this blot, Hamingja is blended, Fylgja is introduced. Separate people become one. A group of individuals become Hyski and they become Frændi. Once more into the layers, into the well the words are cast. For casting into the well, Wyrd is made, and the Norns weave the web which becomes us, The Web of Wyrd

Nothing overly fancy. Just words from the heart. We don't also dress up fancy. Well, not always! What is inside the person counts more than on the outside. All are welcome to join us, in a separate post we'll list our few rules.
