The Web of Wyrd

Welcome to The Hall of the Web of Wyrd.

What is the Web of Wyrd Hall?

Our calendar of events

At Web of Wyrd, we formed a hall to allow folks to find their own way though being heathen. To gather with folks and celebrate life here on Midgard. We gather every other month in person at different members' homes. And in between gatherings we have an online meeting to discuss hall business and for educational time. This we hope will accomplish the need for social interaction with the need to learn more of and talk about our faith. Oh, and our name Web of Wyrd. It is a multi-part meaning. It sounds exactly as the English word Weird. And that word came from Wyrd. It is Anglo Saxon in origin. It signifies fate or destiny, encompassing both the past and the present as it shapes the future. We feel that it was fate that drew us together to form this hall. And that intertwining fate, hamingja, kin and knowledge fits what we are is perfect. But why the word Web? The Norns weave the threads of fate and destiny for all heathens. While fate is not absolute, the web they weave binds us together as kindred. So, when its but together we have the Web of Wyrd.

So, what is a kindred? The Oxford dictionary describes it as

Noun

One's family and relations.

And:

Adjective

Similar in kind; related..

The Hall of the Web Of Wyrd, well, we meet those descriptions. Both the noun and the adjective. But we're much more. All kindreds and Halls are much more. In the first definition it states that it is family. Well yes family is important. Family is relationship by blood. And while we, as a kindred and a hall hold family to be first of our beliefs. Sometimes you do not have a choice about family. As a kindred or hall, we do. We choose to be tied with fate and luck to a group of people that at one time are just strangers. And that's what we and most other kindreds have done. But what makes us different at the Web of Wyrd? Well a few things. One like a lot of kindreds our leadership is elected. Well to a point elected. Well the kindred leader, Tara was elected by us to steer the kindred. My position on the other hand was what we used to call in the service as voluntold. As in, You're volunteering to be the Goði, correct? Just nod your head, and drive on soldier. We have neither. Thane, nor Thrall. We as a kindred subscribe to an old saying of Oðin, We stand first among our equals. As a kindred, we do seek to grow our membership. But it's not a high priority. We are inclusive, but at the same time somewhat exclusive. We as all kindreds should be careful with our hamingja, our luck and our wyrd, our fate.

Our Hall gathers throughout the year for blót, sumbel, feasting, mooting, hiking, camping, goofing off and all around celebration in honor of our Gods, our ancestors, our kindred, our families and friends, and the lands that sustain us.
We meet regularly, but since we are scattered from the Midlands down to the Low Country, and while the gods goddesses and landvættir, are important to us. And we feel that they understand. It is also the 21st century, and we have lives and obligations that must be taken care of. We generally do not meet in the same location, once again since we are scattered across a part of the state, but all are welcome to attend. Well, it depends on who is hosting our gathering, one of the important facts about us is that a person's home rules are to be followed, and some, may not want a lot of people they do not know in their homes. We do not care about a person's sexual orientation nor choice. We do not care about political thoughts nor again, choices. We do say that it is not brought to Bløt. We all have our own ideas on politics, but they have no business in the kindred. Color creed and yes even religion, we don't care about. We do ask that folks remember, this is a Heathen gathering, and we ask that respect be giving to our gods and goddesses by not calling on other deities outside our Pantheon.
